P5 Newsletter October 2015
We hope you had an enjoyable October holiday. Last week we had some excellent activities. We really enjoyed meeting up with our friends and sharing all our wonderful stories of the holidays, we assessed our topic and we really tried hard at remembering how to be wonderfully behaved.
This block we are looking forward to learning about different food and the effects they have on our bodies. We will be categorizing foods, trying new healthy foods and will be learning how hygiene is important in food preparation.
Numeracy and Mathematics
In Numeracy we will be reinforcing our knowledge of multiplying and dividing, we will be learning lots of exciting ways to become more automatic in our number recall facts. We will be visiting different aspects of time and why it is important. We will also cover a mini topic on mapping and co-ordinates.
Our homework will reflect our learning in a variety of exciting ways.
Literacy and English
In literacy we will be reading a whole class novel called The Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo. All our literacy work will be based on this fantastic novel and we will continue to develop our reading completing a variety of activities, including Blankety Blank( cloze procedure) and using Bloom’s Taxonomy of higher order thinking skills to create interesting questions for each other. As this is a whole class novel we will bring home a personal choice book to read at our own pace from the library, but will have reading homework activities based on the class novel. We will even continue our development of book reviews at this time.
Health and wellbeing
This term we will be developing our gymnastics skills with Ms Richard. In the class lessons we will continue to work with our fitness levels through running and stamina building activities.
We will also be remembering that a healthy snack is important to keep our energy levels up in the morning – our interdisciplinary topic will cover this too.
We will be using Sumdog in class and sometimes we will be set challenges with this to complete. We will be using lots of different equipment in the class to record our learning – iPads, cameras and sound recording equipment. We will also be learning about food technology and the tools we can use to help create foods and the safety requirements to use these.
Emma gained badges 5, 6 and 7 in her gymnastics.
Ella moved up her swimming group.
Eva won a trophy for her dancing.
Jess gained a scholarship in her dancing.
Sam gained his blue tag for karate.
A few of us gained badges at Brownies and Scouts.
Amy and Naomi both contributed effectively in music concerts.
Things to remember
We will remember to look at our Home School Planners EVERY DAY and always bring them to school as it is also part of our Personal Learning Profile. We will also remember to complete all homework on time. We will also remember to give you letters!
It is autumn and very cold some days. We should try and remember a jumper, with our names on it, and a warm waterproof coat.
